1. Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy sets rules for using SafeRent fairly and lawfully. It applies to tenants, landlords, agents, and anyone using our websites or apps. It forms part of our Terms of Use.
SafeRent is operated by Pair Collar.
2. Identity and accounts
You must not:
- Create accounts with false names, documents, or identity materials
- Use someone else’s identity, NIN, BVN, or bank account without authority
- Verify more than one SafeRent account with the same government identity (NIN/BVN or equivalent) — including after closing or suspending a previous account
- Share accounts in a way that defeats verification
- Re-register or re-verify after deletion or suspension to evade fraud controls
- Circumvent two-factor authentication, OTP, or other security controls
Identity conflicts may be rejected or reviewed by our support team. We will not disclose another customer’s account details as part of that process.
3. Listings and media
Photos and videos uploaded for a listing may be watermarked with the SafeRent logo, as described in the Terms of Use.
You must not:
- List properties you do not have authority to let
- Post recycled, stolen, or misleading photos or descriptions
- Hide material defects you know about when representing a home
- Demand undisclosed fees outside SafeRent’s rent, caution, and agent-fee structure
- Upload illegal, pornographic, or harassing media in profiles, listings, repairs, or messages
- Remove, crop out, cover, or otherwise defeat a SafeRent watermark on listing photos or videos
4. Payments and wallets
You must not:
- Commit payment fraud, chargeback abuse, or escrow manipulation
- Use stolen cards or bank accounts
- Demand automatic refunds after both parties have signed a lease, when the Refund & Payments Policy does not allow them
- Launder funds or use SafeRent for unlawful financial activity
See the Refund & Payments Policy for refund timing and wallet rules.
5. Inspections and agents
You must not:
- Fake inspection completion or withhold confirmation in bad faith
- Pressure tenants or landlords to move payments or deals off SafeRent to evade fees or safeguards
- Operate as an agent without required local registration (for example LASRERA where applicable)
- Harass parties around inspection times, ratings, or disputes
6. Repairs, ratings, and scores
You must not:
- Raise repair requests in bad faith or with fabricated evidence
- Reject legitimate repairs without good-faith reasons and evidence where required
- Manipulate ratings or trust scores (fake accounts, coercion, or organised abuse)
- Treat SafeRent scores as credit scores or use them for unlawful discrimination
7. Respect and safety
You must not:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, or abuse other customers or SafeRent staff
- Share another person’s personal data from SafeRent outside what is needed for a legitimate deal
- Interfere with support or dispute processes
- Attempt to attack, scrape, or disrupt SafeRent systems
- Use SafeRent for any purpose unlawful under Nigerian law
8. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations and take steps including warnings, feature limits, fund holds, suspension, account closure, identity flags, and referral to law enforcement. We may retain limited identity records after deletion or suspension to prevent re-verification fraud, as described in the Privacy Policy.
